iSA meeting at Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo
From January 7th to 11th iSA Project representatives from Spain visited Peru to meet various hospitals in Lima and Trujillo. The visits included the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (Lima), the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo, the Hospital Belén and the Instituto Regional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas of La Libertad Region.
The iSA Project started 2010 celebrating the first meetings between hospitals of Peru and Spain. A team of infectious diseases and oncology specialists from Vall d’Hebron and Son Dureta hospitals visited Lima and Trujillo in order to explain the objectives and operation of the iSA Clinical Platform.
The first meeting was held at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN) of Lima where the iSA Project was presented to the Infectious Diseases and Oncology departments of the institute. The encounter was useful to understand the reality of infectious diseases and oncology patients in Peru, particularly regarding how exceptionally complex cases are managed within distinct regions.

The INEN is the largest center for oncological diseases in Peru and stands as the national reference for the diagnosis and treatment of this type of pathologies. Considering this reality, the participation of INEN doctors in the iSA Platform becomes highly strategic to cooperate in providing Web-based expert opinions for difficult cases arising in other regions with less resources.

After visiting Lima, the iSA team traveled to La Libertad Region to meet the colleagues of Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo, the Hospital Belén and the Instituto Regional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (IREN). The project idea was very welcome by all three institutions, which are willing to participate in the exchange of clinical knowledge for the benefit of the community.
The usage of the iSA Web Platform in Trujillo shall play an important role in the improvement of Web-based communications among hospitals and healthcare centers of La Libertad Region. If fact, managers of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo are currently working on the development of a teleconsultation model, based on the iSA network, that shall connect the main regional hospitals with primary care centers located far from the city.
