What is iSA?
iSA (International Support Action) is a Web-based collaboration project among medicine professionals, funded by the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Union, which seeks the exchange of knowledge about clinical cases of patients linked to hospitals of Peru, Mexico, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya and Sierra Leone. The project is coordinated by the Hospital Universitario Son Dureta of Palma de Mallorca in close cooperation with the Instituto Valenciano de Oncología, the Hospital Vall d’Hebron and the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu of Barcelona.
Mission
To create an international network of specialists in infectious diseases and both pediatric and adult oncology that permits the exchange of knowledge and experience around special clinical cases due to their complexity or high academic insterest. The network operates upon a Web platform that facilitates a quick and structured exchange of data and images relevant for clinical decision making.
Vision
To achieve a sustainable model of specialized interconsultations based on the reinforcement of communication links among regional hospitals and national centers of reference. It is expected that both the Web tool and the work methodology shall be incorporated into distinct national realities with the aim of providing patients of different regions access to expert opinions. In addition to the healthcare vision, the iSA Project has an academic value since its archive of clinical cases will be offered to faculties of medicine and other educational institutions.
Values
A committed and clear attitude: To seek the benefit of the patient. All the activities are sustained on professional ethics, the humanization of interprofessional relationships, loyalty, commitment, equity and a constant attitude of improvement.
