The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (HSJD) is a private, not-for-profit hospital associated to the University of Barcelona and the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, which helps the hospital to provide top-level technological and human care. HSJD was founded by the “Orden Hospitalaria de San Juan de Dios” in 1867, an organization with over 130 years of experience in providing support to health institutions globally.

The HSJD is dedicated to providing specialized attention to obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. As one of the most important pediatric medical centers in Spain, the HSJD field of pediatrics, in particular neonatology, neuroscience and oncology, has more than 25,000 in-patient admissions per annum, with around 213,000 emergency admissions and 4,000 child births. In 2004 it joined a major research project known as IDIBAPS (Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer), connected to the University. HSJD is also involved in social work programmes and humanitarian activities in a number of countries including India, Mozambique, and Sierra Leone.
